He took office as president of Rollins in July 2015 following eight years as president of the College of Wooster\, in Wooster\, Ohio. Previously\, he was vice president of academic affairs and professor of philosophy at St. Lawrence University\, in Canton\, NY.\n\n \n\nUnder Cornwell's leadership at Rollins\, applications\, enrollment and diversity of the student body have been the highest in the College's history. He led faculty\, trustees\, staff and alumni through a comprehensive strategic planning process resulting in the execution of 15 strategic initiatives to better deliver on the College mission and improve the College's market position. He is shepherding the most ambitious fundraising campaign in the College's history\, anchored by the single largest gift   $40 million   received by Rollins.\n\n \n\nCornwell received his B.A. in philosophy and biology from St. Lawrence University. He received his M.A. and Ph.D.\, also in philosophy\, from the University of Chicago. He received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from The College of Wooster in 2017.\n\n \n\nCornwell is nationally recognized for his work in defining liberal learning in a global environment and continues to write regularly about democracy\, diversity\, and global citizenship. He is an ex officio member of The Florida Council of 100 and serves on the executive committee of Florida Campus Compact. He is also a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) and is past chair of the Association of American Colleges and Universities' (AAC&U) Presidents' Trust. He has served on the boards of AAC&U and Teach for America\, the Council on Foreign Relations' Global Literacy Advisory Board\, the American Council on Education's Commission on International Initiatives and the national advisory panel for the Association of Governing Boards' project on Faculty and Institutional Governance.
